F.A.Q.
WHAT IS THE CATHOLIC FOUNDATION OF SOUTHERN NEBRASKA?
We’re a charitable foundation established to serve the Catholic community by promoting Christian philanthropy. A community foundation, The Catholic Foundation offers donors highly effective fund vehicles for their charitable resources, professional stewardship of those funds, philanthropic planning assistance, optimal tax benefits, and a program of generous and responsible giving to the community that creates meaningful and lasting legacies.
WHAT IS THE FOUNDATION’S RELATIONSHIP TO THE DIOCESE?
The Catholic Foundation is an independent entity, with its own 501(c)(3) designation, bylaws, board of directors, and staff. It functions, however, as an integral partner to serve the Diocese of Lincoln and the entire Catholic community. It was established in 1999 to gather and manage funds upon which the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln could depend to serve its people, parishes, schools, organizations, and social service agencies.
WHAT DO YOU DO AT THE CATHOLIC FOUNDATION?
We work with individuals, parishes, schools, and other organizations to support the work of the Catholic Church. For individuals, we provide ways to reduce taxes, liquidate assets, prepare estate plans and health care directives, all while keeping the individual’s charitable goals at the forefront. For organizations, we help provide a sustainable future by establishing endowment funds which distribute earnings accordingly, and by aiding the organization in liquidating assets. We also help an organization’s donors make one-time or recurring gifts, establish funds, or liquidate assets to benefit the organization directly. If you have an idea in mind, we can make it work!
WHY DO I NEED TO TALK WITH YOU AND NOT JUST VISIT WITH AN ATTORNEY?
Sometimes charitable planning is neglected when you visit with an attorney about your estate plan. We can meet with you either privately or with your attorney to show the various options available to accomplish your charitable objectives. We also offer an End of Life Advanced Health Care Directives in accordance with Catholic teachings to include in your will.
I AM NOT RICH AND DO NOT HAVE ANY MONEY TO GIVE.
Being charitable does not mean you have to be rich. While some donors elect to open a donor advised fund with a minimum of $5,000.00, or an endowment with a minimum of $10,000.00, there is no gift too small for our funds. Do you wish to be charitable but don’t currently have the cash on hand? Some plans we feature help you receive a guaranteed income for life, benefitting you through retirement and making an impactful gift at your passing.
HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE?
We are a free resource.
